ANONYMOUS COMMUNICATION.

Westminster is registered under the serious organised crime police act, 2005 (SOCPA). The act imposes behavioural restrictions, so that demonstrations and any form of deviant or anti-social behaviour has to be approved in order to perform the behaviour. This has created a controlled area, which is stripped of individuality and freedom of speech.

The aim of my work is not for conventional demonstration purposes. The balloon provides the user with an anonymous form of communication. By handing the balloons out to people who normally pass directly through the space without challenging their behaviour or thought, the public is directly forces to question how they would conventionally interact within the space. A question is attached to the balloon, allowing the user to express their desires, confessions or protests. This is an anonymous form of communication, which could potentially provide a connection between one individual to another unknown individual. The balloon encourages the user to communicate something that they would normally not reveal, because of its anonymous nature. The balloon is also stamped and addressed allowing the possibility of a three-way communication, which is entirely successful through chance.

Birth and death are inevitable products of life, whereas Marriage is a social construction of society. Marriage is often associated in the same category as birth and death, labelled as being a similarly poignant part of our lives.

The Vow exchange ritual is intended to be a demonstration of a couples devotion to one another. However, is a vebal exchange the best way to illustrate your commitment to another person?

I have designed a set of blood exchange intravenous rings. The rings allow the couple to show their devotion through the exchange of each-others blood. Through transfusing your partners blood into your own veins, the concept of intimacy is heightened by making the vow exchange an internal physical experience, rather than a purely verbal contacted which is only physically seal with one kiss. This project questions how flippant the concept of marriage has become and constructs a new social ritual because of this.
